Acts Chapter 5 – A Real and Honest Look at Truth, Fear, and Grace

Acts Chapter 5 – A Real and Honest Look at Truth, Fear, and Grace Photo by  Sunguk Kim  on  Unsplash So, Acts chapter 5… wow. What a chapter. Every time I read it, it shakes something inside me — like it starts soft, but then hits hard. There’s drama, honesty, fear, miracles, and even laughter somewhere deep between the lines. It’s one of those chapters that make you stop halfway and just breathe, like, “Wait, did that really happen?” I imagine the early church, still fresh from Pentecost fire, hearts still glowing, people gathering in homes, singing quietly maybe so the neighbors don’t hear too much. There’s love everywhere, generosity like never before. Folks selling their lands, sharing everything, nobody lacking. It’s beautiful — until it isn’t. Verses 1–2: The Lie Begins “But a certain man named Ananias, with Sapphira his wife, sold a possession, and kept back part of the price, his wife also being aware of it, and brought a certain part and laid it at the apo...

Acts Chapter 4 – A Commentary and Bible Study

Acts Chapter 4 – A Commentary and Bible Study Photo by  Sunguk Kim  on  Unsplash So here we go again. Acts Chapter 4. Honestly, I love this chapter. It’s got a fire in it. Like, if Acts 2 was the flame starting, then Acts 4 is when that flame meets wind. You know what I mean? Everything feels alive, shaking, daring — the early church standing bold even when the whole world seems to say “shut up.” This chapter, it’s not soft. It’s courage pressed against fear. It’s voices refusing to quiet down. Peter and John, just ordinary men, fishermen types — standing in front of high priests, rulers, and elders. You can almost smell the tension in that council room, heavy and old, mixed with that dry scent of burning lamps and power. Let’s go verse by verse, and I’ll share what I see, what I feel, what maybe you might see too if you slow down with it a bit. Verse 1–3: Arrested for a Miracle “And as they spake unto the people, the priests, and the captain of the temple, and th...

Acts Chapter 3 – Commentary and Explanation (Bible Study Verse by Verse)

Acts Chapter 3 – Commentary and Explanation (Bible Study Verse by Verse) Photo by  Sunguk Kim  on  Unsplash I always loved this chapter. There’s something about Acts 3 that feels alive, you know? Like you can almost hear the footsteps of Peter and John echoing through the streets of Jerusalem, still buzzing from Pentecost, still trying to make sense of everything that just happened. The Spirit had come, power had been poured out, and suddenly these ordinary fishermen were walking in this new boldness . And here, in Acts 3, we get one of those moments that just feels like early church life — raw, miraculous, surprising. Let’s just go verse by verse, like sitting down with a warm cup of tea and a Bible that’s been highlighted and worn from years of turning pages. Verse 1: “Now Peter and John went up together into the temple at the hour of prayer, being the ninth hour.” I can almost picture it. The sun is dropping low, golden dust floating in the air, and Peter and Joh...

Acts Chapter 2 – Commentary and Explanation (Bible Study Verse by Verse)

Acts Chapter 2 – Commentary and Explanation (Bible Study Verse by Verse) Photo by  Sunguk Kim  on  Unsplash Alright, so Acts chapter 2… honestly, it’s one of those chapters that just hits . Like, you read it and you can feel something stirring inside — it’s the beginning of something new, wild, holy, and honestly a bit chaotic too. The birth of the Church. The Holy Spirit showing up not quietly but with fire . Literally. Let’s just walk through it slowly, verse by verse, like sitting down with coffee and opening the pages of the Bible, thinking and feeling through what it means — not just back then, but now. Verse 1: “When the day of Pentecost had fully come, they were all with one accord in one place.” Pentecost — that’s like fifty days after Passover. The disciples had been waiting like Jesus told them to, right? Waiting in Jerusalem for this mysterious “promise of the Father.” And it says they were all with one accord — that means united, praying together,...

Acts Chapter 1 – Commentary and Explanation (Bible Study, Verse by Verse)

Acts Chapter 1 – Commentary and Explanation (Bible Study, Verse by Verse) Photo by  Sunguk Kim  on  Unsplash Verse 1 – “In my former book, Theophilus, I wrote about all that Jesus began to do and to teach.” Luke, the beloved doctor, starts with a gentle reminder — “my former book.” That’s the Gospel of Luke. So this, Acts, is kind of Part Two. He’s writing again to Theophilus (whose name means “lover of God” — which could be one man or all of us who love God). He says, “all that Jesus began to do and to teach.” Notice that — “began.” It means what Jesus started , the Church will now continue . That’s something that always moves me — the story of Jesus doesn’t stop with His ascension. It continues through the hearts and hands of those who follow Him. Sometimes I think, how wild it is — the Son of God starts a movement with fishermen, tax collectors, and women who had been broken and healed. And now Luke’s saying, “that story’s not over.” It’s a reminder, maybe, tha...
