Introduction to 2 Timothy — A Commentary and Explanation Bible Study (Verse-by-Verse) Photo by Mitchell Leach on Unsplash When I sit down with 2 Timothy , sometimes the pages feel a little heavier than other letters. I don’t even know why at first, but then it hits me again and again—this is Paul’s last writing we have. Like, imagine ink trembling on parchment because the writer knows time is short. There’s this strange smell of old parchment and maybe even prison dampness when I think about it. And the mood of the whole thing… it’s not desperation, but like a deep fatherly sigh. A mixture of courage and sadness and hope and legacy all poured together. 2 Timothy feels like an aged apostle placing his last warm hand upon the shoulder of his spiritual son— Timothy , young, maybe anxious, maybe trying his best to keep that fragile church flame alive in Ephesus. Sometimes I picture the sound of chains clinking while Paul writes, the Greek word δέσμιος (desmios) meaning “a prisoner, o...

Galatians Chapter 6 – Commentary & Explanation

Galatians Chapter 6 – Commentary & Explanation  Photo by  Sincerely Media  on  Unsplash Galatians 6 always feels like Paul’s voice softens. After all the fire of earlier chapters — fighting for grace, warning them about legalism, battling against religious pressure — this chapter feels like someone who’s tired but loving deeply. Almost like a parent giving last pieces of advice before the kids head out the door. It’s not harsh. It’s warm. And honestly, some parts feel like Paul was holding back tears. Let’s walk through it slowly… humanly. Galatians 6:1 — “If someone is caught in a sin, you who are spiritual restore them gently…” This verse hits differently depending how your life been lately. Paul isn’t saying “expose them,” or “drop them,” or “lecture them.” He says restore. And gently. You ever seen a friend break down because they messed up badly? And you can tell they already feel crushed, so the last thing they need is someone stomping on their...

Galatians Chapter 5 – Commentary & Explanation

Galatians Chapter 5 – Commentary & Explanation Photo by  Sincerely Media  on  Unsplash Sometimes when I read Galatians 5, I almost imagine Paul pacing in a small room, maybe some candle burning low, his hands moving while he talks to the air. This chapter feels like a big deep breath—freedom fills the first half of it, and the second half feels like a warning wrapped in love. You can tell this is not just teaching; this is personal. And honestly, freedom is such a strange thing. We pray for it, crave it, sing about it… and when God gives it, somehow we get scared of it. We run back to the comfort of rules, like someone walking out of jail but turning around because the prison felt familiar. Galatians 5 is Paul yelling gently, “Don’t go back. Please don’t go back.” Galatians 5:1 — “Stand fast in the liberty… and do not be entangled again with a yoke of bondage.” This is one of those verses that tastes like fresh air. Paul says stand fast — like a soldi...

Galatians Chapter 4 – Commentary & Explanation

Galatians Chapter 4 – Commentary & Explanation  Photo by  Sincerely Media  on  Unsplash There’s something about this chapter that feels almost like Paul sat down and his heart cracked open a little. He sounds less like a theologian and more like a tired parent who just wants his kids to stop chasing danger. There’s frustration in his voice, but also this aching tenderness. You can tell he loves these people. A lot. And honestly, we’ve all had moments like this too… moments when someone we care about is drifting from truth, and you don’t know whether to shout or to cry or to hug them. Paul does a bit of all three here. Galatians 4:1–2 — “The heir … is no different from a slave until the time set by his father.” Paul uses a picture everyone understood back then: A child might own everything on paper, but if he’s still a kid, he doesn’t experience any of it yet. He lives under rules, guardians, tutors, instructions. It’s like having a whole kingdom sitting in...

Galatians Chapter 3 – Commentary & Explanation

Galatians Chapter 3 – Commentary & Explanation  Photo by  Sincerely Media  on  Unsplash Sometimes when I open Galatians 3, I almost feel Paul’s voice shaking. Not in anger only, but in a kind of hurt, like when you watch someone you deeply love walk toward a cliff without realizing it. The chapter begins so suddenly, so straight-to-the-heart, it almost knocks the breath out of you. And honestly… it’s one of the most emotional, raw confrontations in all of Paul’s letters. And maybe that’s why this chapter feels so strangely close to real life. Because so many times we start our Christian walk with such pure trust in Jesus, and slowly, without even noticing, we drift into trying to make ourselves “holy enough” by our own efforts. And that’s where Galatians 3 comes like a wake-up call. Verse 1 – “O foolish Galatians! Who has bewitched you?” The moment I read this, I always pause. Paul doesn’t usually talk like this unless something serious is happening....
