1 Corinthians Chapter 16 – Love That Stays Until the End

1 Corinthians Chapter 16 – Love That Stays Until the End Photo by  Simon Ray  on  Unsplash You ever notice how Paul ends his letters with real-life stuff? Like he goes from heaven-high theology to “Hey, don’t forget to bring my cloak.” It’s so human. And that’s what this chapter feels like — real, grounded love. After all the heavy teaching on gifts, love, resurrection, he finishes with… the ordinary things that actually show faith in daily life. It’s like he’s saying, “Okay, church, here’s how to live this out now.” Verses 1–4 – The Collection for the Saints Paul starts by talking about the offering — “Now about the collection for the Lord’s people…” It might sound dull at first, but it’s actually beautiful. The believers in Jerusalem were struggling — famine, persecution, poverty — and Paul was collecting support from Gentile churches to help them. He tells the Corinthians, “On the first day of every week, each one of you should set aside something in keeping w...

1 Corinthians Chapter 15 – The Resurrection Hope

1 Corinthians Chapter 15 – The Resurrection Hope Photo by  Simon Ray  on  Unsplash When I first read this chapter years ago, I remember stopping halfway and just… breathing. It’s like Paul pours his whole heart out here, explaining what really matters. The Corinthians were starting to doubt — not whether Jesus was good, but whether resurrection was even a thing. Some said, “Oh, maybe it’s symbolic,” or “It’s spiritual, not physical.” You know, the same old confusion that still circles around today. And Paul? He doesn’t play around here. He goes straight to the foundation — the gospel itself. Verses 1–4 – The Gospel That Saves Paul begins, “Now I want to remind you, brothers and sisters, of the gospel I preached to you, which you received, and on which you have taken your stand.” That’s how he starts — a reminder. Because even believers forget sometimes. He says, “This is the gospel that saves you — if you hold firmly to the word I preached.” Then he sums it up be...

1 Corinthians Chapter 14 – Understanding the Voice of the Spirit

1 Corinthians Chapter 14 – Understanding the Voice of the Spirit Photo by  Simon Ray  on  Unsplash When I read this chapter, I always feel like Paul’s being that older mentor kind of voice — patient, but also tired of the confusion. He just finished talking about love being the most excellent way, and now he’s saying, “Okay, here’s how love actually looks when you use your gifts.” Because, truthfully, the Corinthian church was noisy. They were overflowing with gifts, but not all with sense or unity. It’s like everyone wanted the mic. Everyone wanted to sound spiritual. But sometimes, too many voices can drown the one voice that matters — God’s. Verse 1 – Follow the Way of Love Paul starts strong: “Follow the way of love and eagerly desire spiritual gifts, especially the gift of prophecy.” Notice that? Love first. Then gifts. In that order. He’s not saying gifts are bad — he’s saying gifts must serve love, not ego. Love is the road, and gifts are the car. If you ...

1 Corinthians Chapter 13 – The More Excellent Way

1 Corinthians Chapter 13 – The More Excellent Way Photo by  Simon Ray  on  Unsplash Sometimes you read a chapter in the Bible and it just… stops you. You know what I mean? Like, you can almost feel the pause in your chest. That’s 1 Corinthians 13 for me. It’s one of those chapters that even people who don’t go to church know. It’s printed on wedding invitations and sung in songs. But honestly, I think Paul wasn’t trying to write something pretty — he was trying to wake people up. Because the church at Corinth, man, they were gifted. They had tongues, prophecies, knowledge, miracles — all the big, shiny stuff. But they were missing the main thing: love. And without that, everything else just turns into noise. Verses 1–3 – Without Love, We’re Just Noise Paul starts this chapter like someone cutting straight to the heart. He says, “If I speak in the tongues of men and angels, but have not love, I’m only a clanging cymbal.” I can almost hear it — bang, bang, bang —...

1 Corinthians Chapter 12 – Commentary & Bible Study

Image
1 Corinthians Chapter 12 – Commentary & Bible Study Photo by  Simon Ray  on  Unsplash This chapter right here, it’s one that kinda hits deep when you stop and think about it. It’s not just about “spiritual gifts” like many people say — it’s about belonging. About realizing we’re not lone stars in God’s sky but parts of one big, crazy, beautiful body that’s called the church. You can almost feel Paul’s heart when he writes this one. Like he’s tired but hopeful. The Corinthian church was gifted — really gifted. But they had ego problems. They fought over who was more spiritual, who spoke in tongues better, who was wiser. The church was bursting with talent but bleeding from pride. So Paul writes this long, gentle correction — part teaching, part pleading. Verse 1 – "Now concerning spiritual gifts..." He starts: “Now concerning spiritual gifts, brethren, I would not have you ignorant.” Meaning, don’t be clueless about this stuff. You can’t just chase experi...
